A long time ago (41 years to be exact) in a galaxy far, far away Star Wars was born.
That’s right, you did hear that correctly, it really was 41 years ago since the first Star Wars film was released in 1977. With an extensive media franchise including books, video games, theme park attractions and comic books, Star Wars is officially the second highest grossing film series.
It has a combined box office revenue of $85 billion and the first 8 films were nominated for academy awards. It even has its own day of recognition – May 4th (we shouldn’t have to explain that one to you ☺️).
The Success of Star Wars
We know the facts and figures behind the success of Star Wars but do we know why the franchise has been so successful? There are several reasons but in this blog we are going to focus on just one – family.
From their family to yours, the trinity of Anakin, Luke and Leia Skywalker have been telling a story for generations. Storytelling is one of the most effective ways to connect with your audience.
Everyone can relate to family, most of us have them. From facing difficulties together to celebrating successes being part of a family is what first teaches us care and compassion for others.
From Galaxies to… Horizontal Access?
We understand that our access solutions are lightyears away from Sci-Fi movies, however, there is a common theme – family and longevity.
Bilco and Howe Green are long established brands which began as family run businesses. For both companies strong family values are an intrinsic part of the relationships developed with the internal team and externally with customers.
From the very beginning the emphasis across both companies has been on understanding our customers, no matter how diverse they were. We appreciated that architects would have a different focus to building contractors and we had to satisfy both, even for the same product. We understood the project beyond the specification and manufacture – the importance of timescales, the installation processes and the requirement for ease of use.
Crucially we recognised that the part we played in a project carried a huge responsibility. Late deliveries or incorrect specifications would have a knock on effect on what was happening onsite and could potentially impact other building services professionals involved in the project.
The Force Awakens
Continuous improvement, based on customer feedback, and an extensive knowledge of access solutions in the building services sector are the key drivers behind Bilco UK and Howe Green evolving into the market leading brands of today.
In March 2017 Howe Green was acquired by Tyman Plc to support Bilco’s “Safe Access all Areas” proposition. In April 2017, Bilco UK and Howe Green became part of ERA, another division of Tyman Plc.
There has been a lot of change in the last year – new members of staff joining the management team, new processes, a new website and new brochure. It really has been an exciting time for all involved.
With the coming together of two major market leading brands, the traditional family ethics are still very much at the forefront of our business. Shared values, complimentary product ranges and a recognition of the importance of innovation to drive new product development and customer satisfaction ensure that the force within Bilco UK is strong!
